TMP selling Second Life Job Fairs now!
Have you ever wondered where all of the traveling elixir salesman have gone? Well, I think I found them…
Reportedly, TMP Worldwide will be opening up their island, in Second Life, to 8 lucky hiring companies for a 3-day Virtual Job Fair. Okay, so you don’t have to be Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Golden ticket lucky, you just need $15,000 or $25,000 lying around with nothing to spend it on, that kind of lucky. So anyway, 8 hiring companies participate by setting-up virtual shop in the virtual TMP Island offices, allowing you to hand out virtual squeeze balls or virtual employment-branded notepads. Wow this is going to be a real, I mean, virtual hoot!
The $15k-25k does NOT include the hiring company’s advertising, which traditionally drives candidate flow, and the event can only handle about 50 avatars, virtual job seekers, at a time, due to possible bandwidth issues.
Wait a minute… Traditional, face-to-face, dare I say “analog” job fairs have the advertising included and it really doesn’t matter how many seekers come through the door, the more the merrier? Right? So what makes this so innovative? Okay, I think I found my problem.. I keep getting “innovative” confused with “effective“, and those terms seem to be nowhere near each other in this case. Sorry, nothing to see here, move along..
Although, I do have to give TMP a “A” for effort on this one, no seriously, TMP already has FOUR companies buying the SL elixer, I mean signed up for the event. And no I won’t divulge the company names, because if this proves to be a $25,000 fiasco companies taking a risk shouldn’t be laughed at, much. It’s amazing that some companies have 25k to throw to the wind; I mean how’d they get it through finance? Ummm, it’s recruiting R&D funds. Yea, that’s it..
I will admit that I was sucked into the Second Life fray for about a minute, before regaining my senses. Don’t get me wrong, I love innovation and I hope an awesome case study is made during this “experiment”, probably not, but while the SLVJF if going on I’ll be sharing more JWT AdWords success stories.

Funny… I just commented on this interesting little piece of Web 2.0 today. You can perhaps appreciate this site then, Chad.

Very funny, but the only problem is that an elixir sales person can’t sell it..
