TMP Career Fairs in Second Life
I hope all of the companies who bought into the TMP Second Life Career Fair need to staff up locations in Germany.
“With nearly 800,000 active residents in Europe, Second Life is proving to be popular on an international scale. It’s especially fascinating to note that the number of active German residents exceeds the number of active residents in the entire U.S. It is little wonder that bricks and mortar businesses are seeing Second Life as a virtual-world way of accessing a global, real-world customer base.” - Bob Ivins, Managing Director of comScore Europe
If you’re a U.S. based company looking to leverage Second Life it may be a tad early, even for early adopters.
“When you compare the billions of page views by millions of users at MySapce, to Second Life’s potential full unique user pool of 207,000 people across the same month, and then you consider that there is only a small chance they may visit your Second Life destination due to clunky in-world search and a smorgasbord of competing choices, the value proposition just doesn’t add up for US based business.” - TechCrunch
My advice is to not allow a Whiz Bang! factor to get in the way of making a solid recruitment marketing decision. Get the proper industry intelligence, case studies, statistics, and hiring company endorsements before flying into a virtual recruitment debacle.

Semper seems to be having success with its Second Life employment office. They shared some stats on the ERE Web site - scroll down to the comment titled “Passion and profits.”

Great numbers Jason, unfortunately due to the cost and bandwidth constraints, limiting candidates, the clients using this particular TMP/SL Virtual Career Fair will not have an opportunity to reach stated ROI.
I understand there is an opportunity, although the intel I’ve gathered from companies who have been pitched on this idea says TMP won’t be able to deliver.
Pure and simple, this is a ploy for TMP to drive ad dollars not candidates.
