Infantry Training in Fort Benning

I would like to apologize in advance for my lack of blogging over the next couple of weeks, I will be on an Army Annual Training Mission returning October 8th.

In my absence, I hope you enjoy the following video presentation.

Corporate Video Job Board

Kudos to MRI Indianapolis for creating a truly hip and practical job board equipped with video listings, video recruiter bios, and much more video!

After reviewing the site I see 2 options for hiring companies:
1) Hire these guys.
2) Mimic what they’re doing.

Has anyone else come across a site using relevant video content better?

BYOCS - Bring Your Own Case Study

RE: Web 2.0 Vendor Advice

The set-up:
Imagine hundreds of Fortune 500 companies focused on recruitment best practices, industry intelligence, technology, and labor market efficiencies. That’s DirectEmployers Association, a non-profit recruitment leadership group focused on more than merely round-table discussions, oh don’t get me wrong our monthly discussions are incredibly popular, although we focus on implementing and executing measurable initiatives, not just talking about them.

Where’s the advice? Patience, I’m getting there.

The situation:
Since DirectEmployers represents an extremely progressive group of staffing leaders from large companies, we are the target of every web 2.0 vendor in the world looking to spread the word of their new and bountiful offering to our membership. Okay, I get it, you have a great product. Although I won’t partner with a vendor unless they can provide results driven proof, a solid case study complete with hiring companies, preferably from one of our members, backing your data.

Hell, I’ll even blog about it if your numbers are solid and backed by hiring companies.

The Advice:
1) Vendors MUST have solid case studies available with real companies and real people available as references. 2) When presenting your case bring a user in to provide best practices and success stories instead of selling concepts laden with cool and hip web 2.0 buzz words.

Chad-fucius say… Provide examples of real success and you will receive real success in return. (a.k.a.) Find out what works and beat it too death with a stick!

RSS for Beginners

This post is dedicated to all of the people still “surfing” for information on the web. Common Craft does a great job of explaining how Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and RSS readers can save time and deliver relevant content without breaking out the Sex Wax.

Holy web 2.0 Batman!!

Today’s bit of Friday morning humor focuses on two characters in the online recruiting industry. Personally, I think it’s interesting how people view characters in our industry; some as heroes, some as villains, but we all play some type of role somewhere. Like Animal, who I see playing the “Creepy Uncle” role, you know the one who always wanted you to sit on his lap. Anyways, I wanted to briefly highlight a couple of characters I’d like to call:

The Dynamic DuoJoel Cheesman and Jason Goldberg

No question this is an odd pairing, but stick with me for a second.

Let’s start with Jason Goldberg (a.k.a. JGo). JGo receives a large amount of flak due to his cocky style, abrasive presentation, and for saying pretty much what everyone else is thinking. I’m sure you believe he should be listed as a villain, but to be fair, I personally don’t know of another individual who has bounced around the Nation preaching the words of progress and web 2.0 more than this guy. So what if he likes to flaunt his high Prada fashion and mad Crackberry skills, the guy has forced new and progressive thinking down the throats of a much needed and slow-moving industry. I give kudos to the Boy-wonder!

Then we have the Yin to JGo’s Yang; wait a minute that didn’t sound right, Joel Cheesman (a.k.a. Cheezhead). Joel has become strangely linked to the Boy-wonder through famous blog banter, on-stage Onrec antics, and my personal favorite, acting as JGo’s unofficial Public Relations manager. Unofficial what? Cheezhead provides more free awareness and consult to Jobster than any other site I know. Remember the only bad PR is no PR (or back links), and good, bad, or ugly Cheezhead has provided Jobster PR and/or public consult on several occasions. Cheezhead just added a Jobster category, since the topic is of importance, and I hear rumblings of JGo as guest writer for Cheezhead Xtra.

Now isn’t it hard to picture one without the other?
