3 Doors Down ROCKS Recruitment!

I’ve always enjoyed listening to the Rock band 3 Doors Down but only after seeing the video for their song “When I’m Gone” did I consider myself a fan. Why? Simple, the video and lyrics dedicated to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces evoked emotion and truly resonated within me.

THAT MY FRIENDS IS THE POWER OF VIDEO!

The song itself was good, but the marriage of the message and the video created more emotion than the lyrics by itself. Video can achieve this where mere text, job postings, job fairs, newspaper ads, or even cool employment branding taglines fail miserably.

Where does recruitment fit into this?
The Army National Guard has effectively used video in the past to recruit, but it looks as if they are taking this method to the next level by sponsoring one of the newest 3 Doors Down singles called Citizen Soldier, below. The video carries the Army National Guard watermark, in the lower right corner, and logo at the end of the video while co-promoting the 3 Doors Down album release in 2008. This type of recruitment brand co-advertising not only uses mainstream video, but combines powerful lyrics relevant to the Army National Guard recruitment message.

Are you kidding? Buy a band?
Why not? Select local talent to provide community flavor to your branding campaign. For years companies have purchased songs, lyrics, bands, athletes & movie stars through endorsements just to brand and sell their products and services. Why not use the same type of sales and/or motivating techniques to attract the people who actually create or offer those services for your company? If the talent is not in the seat, you have no product or service to sing about!

Chicken or Egg? Talent or Product? The answer seems pretty simple to me..

Holy cows! that was a great video, almost makes me want to go back into the Marine Corps!

Video is a great tool, I see more and more of it being used every day. I am pushing for more use of it here in Montana!

    Thanks Chad

I saw the video at the movie theater this weekend…one of the hundreds before the actual flick. It is pretty cool!

As a former NCO in the United States Marine Corps I wonder if any of these ass munches are in the National Guard or ever served in the Military. They look to be health and of age. How about not pulling a Dick Chaney and actually serving instead of profiting off wars.

Mike, today’s military is voluntary. I have voluntarily served in the active Army and reserve component for nearly 19 years now and I DO NOT expect everyone to serve. Your comparison is right out.. Chad

Wow! Felt like I was watching a Jerry Bruckheimer production of a Third Reich recruitment film. Nothing like feeling like you are being bashed over the head with a sledgehammer even BEFORE the movie previews roll at the movies! P.S. The song is pretty darned awful too. Sorry, but it does.

Don’t worry Craig, they didn’t have recruiters standing at the doors waiting for new recruit signatures after the movie. As I stated in my last comment the U.S. has a voluteer military, which means you’ll be able to stay safe and warm due to the work of the National Guard, Reserve, and Active component. Sleep tight…
